Harlequinade
Kenneth Branagh revives and stars alongside Zoe Wanamaker in Terrance Rattigan’s rarely performed comedy as part of his new season of plays at the Garrick theatre. The plot concerns a classical theatre company whose personal lives explode onto the stage during disastrous productions of The Winter’s Tale and Romeo and Juliet. This production will appropriately play in rep with Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale and Romeo and Juliet features later in the announced season. Married couple Arthur and Edna are gearing up to play roles they’ve spent their lives playing but when Arthur receives some shock news the productions fall into chaos with hilarious consequences. The behind the scenes world becomes the focus of this comedy from acclaimed writer Terrance Rattigan author of The Winslow Boy, The Deep Blue Sea and Separate Tables. Branagh will reunite with co director Rob Ashford for the production. The pair previously enjoyed great success with their Macbeth first in Manchester and then New York. Prior to each performance Zoe Wanamaker will also perform Rattigan's All On Her Own, a one woman show that shows off Rattigan's darker side.
